Every year, we host Drive for Success, a school supply drive for vital school supplies for students in Greeley-Evans School District 6. This helps provide our students with the supplies that they may not otherwise get due to budget constraints. Donations of brand-new school supplies or tax-deductible donations to purchase them allow our students more opportunities to succeed!

Of course school supplies are important, but why do we host a school supply drive? Why do we reach out to our supporters for their help? There are several reasons!

  • School supplies are expensive! The National Retail Federation (NRF) reported the results of a 2018 survey that determined the average cost for school supplies is $122.13. This cost includes notebooks, pencils, paper, erasers, binders, etc. Of course, this cost can vary. The survey reported that some families will spend nearly $150 more than others.

  • School supply shopping is time-consuming! Finding time to shop for school supplies can take a great deal of time, even for families that don’t have working parents or young children. NRF’s study also reported that only 16% of parents were done with school supply shopping in early August last year, which can get their purchase date quite close to the first day of school. Further, 73% of families save shopping for actual school supplies for last.

  • Getting new school supplies is fun! For many students, getting shiny new school supplies is almost like Christmas. It gives them a head start to the new year and makes them excited for what’s to come. According to the Sun-Sentinel, the Office Depot Foundation President Mary Wong believes giving students school supplies is vital: “…we are giving them important tools they need to start school with confidence and succeed through the year.”

If you donate school supplies, they will be taken in, sorted, and then given directly to our students to help them through their next academic year. If you make a tax-deductible donation, your support will allow us to buy the most needed school supplies and distribute them like normal. Either way, it’s a win for our students!
