Stacey Swanson, Community Representative

Stacey Swanson joined our Board of Directors in 2020! Stacey is the owner of Wealth and Women. In this coaching service, she shares her knowledge of finances to educate and empower women to better understand money, budgeting, and gain confidence. While Stacey is relatively new to our Board, we sincerely appreciate her insight and support of our students, and we are thrilled to introduce you to her today!

What is your favorite part of serving on the Board of Directors?

Events with the students involved in GDT are the best! I love getting to know them, their stories, and their dreams and see them involved in something that furthers their education. I also feel strongly about kids being involved in the organization/events that support them and not expecting the adults to do it for them. This builds character and humbles them, along with teaching them hard work. The GDT staff is great about involving the students, and that makes the organization successful!

What influenced you to serve on the Board for the Dream Team?

I am a long-time education employee working in preschool classrooms, general education, opening a new middle school, and working at CSU. Kids need education, and I am a life-long learner and hope to instill that in others.

What does it mean to you (personally and/or professionally) to serve on the Board?

This is the first Board I have served on, and I have learned a lot. Not only am I helping deserving students and a deserving cause, but I am also getting acquainted with influencers in the community: the School board, Town Board, Educators, Donors, and long-time community members, which furthers my circle of colleagues and brings attention to my business. It also allows me to educate my friends and colleagues about a program they can support.

What advice would you give a Dream Team student who one day wants to work in your field?

Get educated, and don’t slack off. As stated, I am a life-long learner and have enjoyed furthering my knowledge and reaping the rewards of that. I also would say it is never too late. I earned my first Bachelor’s degree and my Life Insurance provider license at the age of 48. And if you don’t like what you are doing, switch it up. Enjoy your life!

What did you study in college?

Accounting and Business at CSU and CSU Global

What inspired you to work in your field?

I started out in banking in high school because my mom was a banker. That led to studying accounting. I also teach and speak to women about Money Confidence which started when I was a single mom and realized how little I knew about taking care of my own finances. I am passionate about educating everyone in managing money with confidence.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

My favorite thing to do is to hike and explore. I love being outside and enjoying nature, especially with my daughters and granddaughters.
