Deana Lemos-Garcia, Community Representative

Deana Lemos-Garcia joined our Board of Directors in 2020 and has been instrumental in supporting success for our students this last year. Deana currently serves as a Human Resource Business Partner for Ball Aerospace in addition to being the director and owner of the BMS Foundation, a non-profit organization for minority women created in honor of Brittiney Sierra. We are honored to have Deana’s insight and support as part of our Board, and we cannot wait for more milestones after this first year!

What is your favorite part of serving on the Board of Directors?

I am excited to be involved with this non-profit that is vibrant, values-driven, and culture-focused. Being a part of an organization that supports our local students, community, and the future of our country.  I resonate with the students’ stories, backgrounds, and lived experiences, and being able to influence, impact and support them with their personal and professional development and future aspirations is breathtaking.

What influenced you to serve on the Board for the Dream Team?

I desire to be an ally and encourage students to see life through a new lens.  My motivation drive is creating impact, making a difference, and building a culture of learning and a feeling of belonging.  My desire and passion are to be an advocate for people.

What does it mean to you (personally and/or professionally) to serve on the Board?

It means getting involved, building relationships, and getting to know each person as an individual.  Supporting students to find their passions and goals for life and to develop both professionally and personally.

What advice would you give a Dream Team student who one day wants to work in your field?

Dream Big – Never give up.  Find your circle of people who support and inspire you to show up as your best every day.

What did you study in college?

My BA is in psychology and my MA is in HESAL (Higher Education Student Affairs Leadership) both from the University of Northern Colorado.

What inspired you to work in your field?

The desire to give back and support students/people in achieving their dreams and aspirations.  I am a huge advocate for advanced education and believe that fostering a person’s continuous learning is valuable and can positively impact the personal and professional future of people.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

My favorite thing to do in my free time is spending it with family and friends – traveling, enjoying outdoor events, and board game nights.
