Next up for the spotlight is Oscar, who is also one of our tutors and our intern this semester! Oscar’s college graduation is right around the corner, and we can’t wait to see what amazing things are up next in his adventure!

What is up next for you after you earn your degree?
After earning my degree this next fall, I plan to keep going and accomplish my goal of obtaining my Masters. I plan to become a therapist or counselor sometime in the near future.
What is one thing you want to accomplish in the next three years?
In the next three years, something I hope to accomplish is to obtain my Masters degree.
What aspect of being in the Dream Team has stuck with you?
The aspect that has really stuck with me is to always believe. I’m the first person in my family to graduate from a 4-year university, and it wouldn’t have been possible if the Dream Team and I didn’t believe this was possible.
What are your goals for the future, and what goals have you achieved?
My goals for the future are to obtain my Master’s degree and become a therapist or a counselor. I also really want to travel the world. The only country I’ve been to outside of the United States is Mexico. But I want to travel more and really explore all the beautiful places in this world.
What is one of your favorite memories of being in the Dream Team?
One of my favorite memories from the Dream Team was this buddy-to-buddy program that we had in middle school. This will always be my favorite Dream Team memory because I had so much fun spending time with my friends and college students. On a Saturday, we got to play games with the college students and got to do a bunch of team-building activities. Then, on Sunday, we got to go to a UNC football game. Overall, it was a great time, and it will always stick with me because of how much fun I had.
What is one piece of advice you would give a Dream Team student who has just graduated high school?
One piece of advice I would give to a Dream student who has recently graduated high school is to always keep going (persevere) and to always believe in themselves. Sometimes, we bring each other down and think we’re not capable of doing certain things. But we are so much more capable than what we actually think. A few years back, I would have probably never believed that I would even have been the first in my family to graduate from college or that I would keep going to get my Masters degree. But now it’s a reality, and it was all because I believed in myself and I never gave up. We have so much support from the Dream Team, and we really just need to believe in ourselves to accomplish anything we want.
