What aspect of being in the Dream Team has stuck with you?

The feeling of community and togetherness. My Advisor treated me as more than just a student who needed good grades: she treated me like a person with goals and dreams. Having my Advisor by my side has meant everything has always been and still is possible. Even when my academic journey hasn’t been the easiest, they’ve never stopped believing in me.

What are your goals for the future, and what goals have you achieved?

I have an insurance job in which I have various endorsements. I am also an ordained minister, and I run a cake-decorating business! When I was in FCCLA, I won first place at the Colorado/Wyoming International Cake Exploration Society Cake Show!

What is one of your favorite memories of the Dream Team?

Meeting all of the new Advisors! I first met a Dream Team Advisor when I was a little 6th grader touring my new middle school, and she stopped me. It wasn’t until Dream Team that I felt like I was part of something bigger.

College didn’t feel real to me until Dream Team took me on a college tour in 8th grade. That tour helped me find my dream school and visualize myself in college.

What is one piece of advice you would give a Dream Team student who has just graduated high school?

Ask every question you have. Apply for everything. Volunteer when you can.

There are so many unknowns for first-generation students. Use Dream Team as your resource to support you on your journey.
