It’s hard to believe that 2023 is nearly over! Now is a good time to sit down and take a look back on some of the awesome things that happened this year!
January
January was full of financial literacy workshops like the Bean Game and Credit Score Jenga! These workshops allow students, regardless of if they are in middle or high school, to learn about and understand some of the otherwise challenging topics surrounding budgeting, credit, bills, and more!
We also conducted interviews for our 2023 Dream Team Honors scholarship recipients at the end of the month!
PLUS, Dr. Kamel Haddad, our UNC Representative, joined our Board of Directors.
February
February workshops focus on career/college preparation and goal setting. These plans were mirrored in the “I Love My Future” event held at Greeley Central High School, an event that allowed students to have a one-stop shop to utilize their resources and apply for everything they need to ensure they succeed in college. Our Assistant Director of Programs and one of our students, Levette, even got to go to TRIO Day at the Capital, where Levette shared some of her story!
We also recognized our honors scholarship recipients before the Board of Education and got to tour Front Range Community College.
March
The spring semester was in full swing by March! Workshops focused on goal setting, time management, and interview preparation to help students set up for success. That’s not all we were busy with, though: our Awards Banquet honored our scholarship recipients, we held our fourth annual sticker contest, and Northridge held a “ShamROCK Your Future” event!!
April
Our high school students got to explore the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), whom we have had a mentorship partnership with for the last few years. They got to explore STEM opportunities and meet professionals on their campus! Our middle school students got to visit Sunrise Community Health to chat with health practitioners and practice skills like casting and CPR. One of their staff members, who was pregnant, even allowed several of our students to see what a real ultrasound looks like!
PLUS, Mitchel Reuss officially joined our Board of Directors.
May
Our 2023 Fairway to the Future Golf Tournament kicked off on May 6th! This event allows sponsors and golfers to come together to support Dream Team Honors Scholarships for future students!
The spring semester may have been wrapping up, but that won’t stop student support! Our middle school students explored Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, CSU SPUR, Greeley’s Museums, and the LINC Library. Incentive workshops were also held to celebrate students’ hard work and dedication throughout the school year.
The best part? For the FIFTH year in a ROW, every single Dream Team senior GRADUATED!
Summer
Over the summer, we wrapped up summer field trips, and our high school students got to explore the University of Wyoming and Laramie County Community College during their high school overnight!
In July, we held our School Supply Drive for Success with our awesome friends at Weld Family Clinic of Chiropractic and JBS.
August
We started the new semester off strong! Our Advisors decorated their offices (see those pictures on Instagram), we held our Alumni Picnic, and our staff also attended a Clifton Strength training to discuss their skills and grow together!
September
We celebrated at our Community of Champions … Turning Dreams into Reality Breakfast, where we honored: alumni Maria, Pablo, and Yessica; Educator Pete Lien; and Community Partner Farmers Bank.
The workshop theme for September was team-building: helping students connect to their peers at the start of a new year. Students at Greeley Central High School continued to build these connections as they worked together to build a Wall-E-themed float for the homecoming parade!
Our high school students also got to explore Colorado State University!
October
A snowstorm around Halloween and bits of summery weather never slow us down! Middle school students explored Boulder County’s Cultural History Sites and the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery. Student Induction/Parent Orientation events were held, which welcomed new 6th-grade students into the program and answered any questions they or their parents/guardians had.
We also got to welcome our very first students from James Madison STEAM Academy and the Tointon Academy of Pre-Engineering into the program!
November
November was STEM month! We got our VR headsets back out for our students to explore! This allowed students to explore STEM colleges and careers at their own pace while learning all about the options ahead of them.
We also got to welcome our very first classes of students to our Platte Valley program at both Platte Valley Middle School and Platte Valley High School!
December
December isn’t over yet, but Colorado Gives Day was a success! Thanks to the generosity of our community and YOU! (By the way, there’s still time to donate! Head to bit.ly/gdtcgd)
2023 was an incredible year! We are so grateful for all the hard work from our staff, students, donors, community, and friends. Thank you for coming along for the ride to turn dreams into reality.
Let’s make dreams a reality for even more students in 2024!
