The transition between middle school and high school can be scary, so we’ve put together some tips to help make it easier! While some of these changes won’t kick in until you’re actually in high school, they’re still important to remember.

Participate in things you’re interested in. If you want to play a sport, try out for a team! If you love theater, audition for plays! If you like music, join the band or choir! Look into those things offered during school (band, art classes, dance, etc.) as well as those offered after (sports, theater, etc.) and any clubs you might love.

Work hard. Grades aren’t everything, but hard work is important. Do your best in your classes, because many of the things you learn and do in high school will prove beneficial to you when you graduate. The Dream Team also has tutors that can help you when needed.

Take the PSAT. This pretest acts as a model to give you an idea of how well you would do on the SAT, and can serve as a great model for the things you need to study before your junior year comes around.

You don’t have to plan your entire future right now. There will be conversations about graduation, college, and jobs, but you do not have to make all of those decisions right now. High school will help you figure out what you’re interested in, and you can figure out your next steps from there. You do not have to make these choices right away. Your advisor will help you with this process.

Meet up with your Advisor. Your Dream Team Advisor is there to support you in high school just like they were in middle school. Whether you’re a Grizzly, Jaguar, Spartan, or Wildcat, your Advisor is there to cheer you on. Don’t be afraid to talk to them, ask them questions, and seek their guidance to get you through high school and eventually to college!

Most importantly, remember to take care of yourself! You have both your advisor and the entire Dream Team rooting for you, so keep your head held high! You’ve got this.
