It may be summer but we are still here!
School may be out but the Dream Team office is still busy as ever throughout the summer!
Our office staff keeps things going all summer long. After the advisors leave, Sarah, our Assistant Director of Programs, reviews every seniors’ financial aid package and follows up with any loose threads. Students set up appointments to complete last minute financial aid verification, schedule their classes and college orientation, and ask advice on what necessary dormitory supplies they need. We love a good numbers game, so Sarah compiles the financial aid awards received by all 78 seniors and calculates how much our students received in free money for college. So far she has tallied over $2 Million in scholarship and that’s just for 78 students!
Elizabeth, our Executive Director, catches up on meetings with community members and organizations that hope to collaborate with us. She is constantly on the move between coffee appointments with old alumni, lunch meetings with awesome community partners, and hosting our annual Board of Directors retreat to help map out the upcoming year and strategic plan. The school year may be over but fall is just a few months away. Elizabeth wants to make sure we are set for success in all our upcoming fundraisers, the school supply drive, and the inaugural Community of Champions…Turning Dreams into Reality Breakfast in September.
Blessed, our Administrative Assistant stays on top of our social media throughout the summer, discovering cool community events to highlight and reminding our students and families of important deadlines. For any event we host, Blessed designs all the marketing materials. Walk by her desk and she’s likely deciding between various shades of blue for a new event invitation or new marketing material. Or she may be adding the final touches to your student file! She also supports Elizabeth with community outreach by inputting data into our donor relations system and being the first face visitors see when they stop by the office.
This summer we are lucky enough to have Alfredo Ochoa-Hernandez, a rising senior at Greeley Central High School and Dream Team student, working as our intern! Freddy has done everything from organizing our office to sorting documents for our student files. He has learned how an industrial sized shredder works, built muscles loading and unloading coolers of water on the bus for field trips, and gotten tips on what scholarships to apply for in the fall.
Our office stays open all summer so stop in Mondays through Thursdays between 8-4 to say hello (and if you’re a student, probably get asked about your college plans!).
